Generosity Feeds, Local Volunteers Aim to Combat High Hunger Rate

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -
A nationwide foundation aimed to feed the hungry is in St. Louis for the first time.
With 94 percent of children in the St. Louis area struggling with hunger, one of the highest rates in the country, volunteers from Generosity Feeds arrived to help lower that statistic.
The group's goal was to pack 10,000 non-perishable meals in two hours Saturday morning.
"It's such a relevant problem in our community," said DJ Sansone.
Sansone arrived to the event alongside his Saint Louis University high school football teammates.
Sansone says he knows he knows he's lucky to know where his next meal will come from and wants to help those who don't have the luxury.
"When the football team heard about this opportunity, we were all really excited to give back," Sansone said.
Founder of Ron Klabunde of Generosity Feeds said the foundation plans to return to St. Louis since the 'need is so great.'
"All of that food stays local to feed children who are struggling with hunger," said Klabunde.
Once the food is packed, Generosity Feeds gives the meals to food pantries across St. Louis City like the Demetrious Johnson Foundation.
"That's why it's important for us to come out and do something that's not for yourself, but for someone else to try and help someone else's life, said Demetrious Johnson, "to know we're helping out feels really good."
