Athens candidate comes to rescue of woman choking on food

Russell Edwards was campaigning recently — trying to meet people in their neighborhoods — when a woman exited her home with a desperate look on her face.

“She looked like she was about to collapse,” Edwards recalled about that March 27 evening.

Jennifer McClain was actually choking on food that had lodged against her windpipe.

“I motioned to him,” she recalled, “And I said, ‘please help.’ He said ‘Are you choking’ and I nodded yes.”

Edwards quickly began performing the Heimlich maneuver. He did it five times.
